How to prevent my emails from being marked as SPAM

Sometimes it is possible that your emails are marked as SPAM, to correct the issue you can follow these recommendations:

The first thing is to verify the IP of the server, in Neolo you can be relieved that the IP of the server in which your web hosting account is hosted, is completely clean. You can check it from https://www.spamhaus.org/lookup

Another step is to activate SPF and DKIM

Consider not making mass mailings or adding too many attachments or too many links in the content.

We can also add that an email reaches the recipient's spam or junk mail folder depends on the criteria with which the anti-spam filter of that destination account is configured.

What is an Anti-Spam filter?

Spam filters are used to detect and block any unwanted email, they take into account many criteria by which they determine if an email is spam or legitimate. Each criterion is assigned a number of "points" and according to this your mail passes or not through the applied filters.

You should consider that if your recipients mark your messages as not Spam, the following emails will arrive in the inbox. That is, filters record user behavior.

That said, we recommend paying attention to the following points:

The subject or title of the message

You should avoid extending yourself into a long subject, you should spend time on it since it represents the opening of your message, it should be short, precise and arouse interest,

Other aspects to take into account, is to try not to be too emotional! Avoid the exaggerated use of capital letters and punctuation marks.

Do not use the word “test” in the subject line. When you send a test to your clients for approval, avoid these types of words, send it with the subject you would use.

Content and Keywords

The content of your message is the beginning of everything. It should be clear, clean and attractive.

There are certain words that you should avoid, some of them are: Spam, this is not Spam, for you, congratulations, free, free call, offer, priority mail, urgent, earn money, for a limited time, you have been selected, online pharmacy, viagra, lose weight, work from home, etc. just to mention a few

We recommend you use your common sense, think of all the words that automatically trigger the red flag when you receive a spam email. Try not to use these phrases and words, even if what you are communicating is original and legitimate, the filters will label you as Spam and your message will not reach its recipient.

The use of metadata

The spam filters also check the metadata in the emails, if you are already in the recipient's contact list and if you use free email addresses, such as Yahoo, Aol, Gmail or Hotmail among others. It is preferable to have a professional email with the name of your domain or brand.

In the event that the postal service blocks the images for you, or that your recipient has it configured that way by default, the alternative text will be what will help you communicate your idea. Try to interest the reader with the name to invite them to unlock the image by drawing their attention.

Balance between Text and Images

Avoid using a single image or a lot of text with a single image. Anti-Spam filters cannot read images so if too many images or just one image are used the filter will interpret the action as an attempt to send Spam. A 50/50 balance between text and images is recommended

The size of the images also influences, it is recommended not to exceed 150 kb in total

Avoid overly strong colors such as bright red or green text.

HTML problems

Errors, dirty code, and syntax pasted from a word processor can trigger spam filters.
